Between 2020 and 2023, several GM vehicles have been reported for recurring issues:  

The lifter and fuel management issues in Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra models, particularly from 2014 onward, are often linked to failures in the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, a feature designed to improve fuel efficiency by deactivating half of the engine's cylinders under light load conditions. This system, however, has been prone to causing lifter malfunctions.  Oil Pressure and Quality Issues: One of the main causes of lifter failure is low or fluctuating oil pressure. This affects the ability of AFM lifters to function properly, leading to their collapse or failure. Dirty or low-quality oil can also clog the solenoids and prevent the lifters from operating properly.   The AFM lifters, by design, frequently switch between activation and deactivation, which over time stresses the internal components of the lifters. As a result, the internal mechanisms like the latching pins can break down, leading to misfires or valve issues.  Auto Chimps 

Chevrolet Equinox & GMC Terrains have experienced widespread fuel pump failures, causing stalling and loss of power. Owners have reported these issues as early as 7,000 miles, with delayed repairs due to part shortages​. 

Fuel Management Problems   The AFM system's fuel-saving mechanism can also lead to increased oil consumption, especially as unused cylinders are still lubricated with oil. Over time, this excess oil can cause piston ring wear and lead to oil leaking into the combustion chamber, exacerbating lifter and valve failures​.
