2024–2025 Mazda CX-90: Brakes Squeaking Problem

Posted by Howard Gutman | Aug 31, 2025 | 0 Comments

The 2024 and 2025 Mazda CX-90 was introduced as Mazda's flagship SUV – marketed as a family-friendly, premium alternative in the midsize SUV segment. But instead of luxury and confidence, many owners are reporting the same troubling issue: brakes squeaking, juddering, and vibrating, often within the first thousand miles of ownership.

Dozens of complaints from forums, news articles, and now a Mazda class action lawsuit reveal that the problem is not isolated. The issue affects brand-new vehicles, yet as of now, there are no official Mazda CX-90 recalls for the brakes.

Owners Speak Out About Mazda CX-90 Brakes Squeaking

Owners describe the brakes as “emitting a loud, high-pitched squeaking noise” even during normal, low-speed braking. One Mazda CX-90 driver said on Reddit:

“Had the dealership regrease pads and pins at 10k miles, squealing came back within 100 miles after. Had to fight to do it under warranty.”

Another frustrated owner wrote:

“It's never normal for pads to squeal. Everything from Ferraris to Corollas are driving around with quiet pads… No reason for this car to be noisy.”

Some drivers also report brake juddering – a shaking or vibration in the pedal when stopping – that feels like warped rotors. According to owners, even full brake replacements (pads, rotors, and calipers) have not permanently solved the issue. Alarmingly, some Mazda CX-90 owners have been quoted up to $1,500 for brake repairs, with Mazda dealerships calling it “normal wear and tear.”

Mazda's Own Service Alerts on Disc Brakes Squeaking

Mazda itself acknowledged the issue in a March 2024 Service Alert (SA-016/24) covering the CX-90 and other models. The bulletin described problems such as “brake noise, brake judder or brake dragging” and instructed dealers to sand pads, lubricate hardware, and apply “disc quiet” compounds.

But owners complain these steps only mask the problem temporarily. One driver reported:

“The dealer sanded the pads with 80 grit, greased everything, and the squeal came back within weeks.”

This is why so many customers now refer to the Mazda CX90 squeaky brakes issue as a potential design flaw, not just a maintenance problem.

Mazda Class Action Lawsuit: CX-90 Brakes Squeaking

In May 2025, plaintiff Daniel Green filed a Mazda class action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California: Green v. Mazda Motor of America, Inc. The case alleges that all 2024–2025 CX-90 SUVs are defective and that Mazda concealed the issue from consumers.

According to the lawsuit:

  • The plaintiff first noticed squeaking at 839 miles.
  • At 1,127 miles, Mazda resurfaced rotors and pads, greased components, and test-drove the car – only for the squeaking to return.
  • Multiple repairs followed, including sanding pads and replacing hardware. None solved the problem.
  • The brakes are still “squealing, squeaking and juddering,” forcing the driver to adjust his driving due to “dangerous braking performance.”

The lawsuit further claims that the squeaking causes damage to pads, rotors, and calipers, and that Mazda may charge customers out of pocket for repairs instead of treating it as a warranty defect.

Why This Matters

The Mazda CX90 2024 and Mazda CX90 2025 are still new models on the road. Despite repeated complaints, there are no Mazda CX90 recalls specifically addressing the brakes.

This puts owners in a difficult position: driving a vehicle that feels unsafe, while Mazda treats the issue as normal. Legally, this opens the door for consumer protection claims.

Owners with substantial and recurring problems may be entitled to a refund or replacement under lemon law. Other owners may have claims for breach of warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Act.
