2020-2024 Chevy Silverado: Coolant Temperature Service Bulletins & Special Coverage

Posted by Howard Gutman | Dec 28, 2025 | 0 Comments

If you own a 2020–2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax and keep hearing about Chevy Silverado coolant temperature service bulletins or a 15-year/150,000-mile program, you're really asking one thing:

“Does my truck qualify for the special coverage on the coolant control valve?”

This page focuses on that coverage and the key bulletins. For a symptom checklist and how the problem feels day-to-day, see our separate article on the Duramax Coolant Valve Issue.

Quick Guide: Am I Likely in the Special Coverage?

This isn't a final answer (the dealer must confirm by VIN), but it helps you see where you probably stand.

Step 1 – What engine do you have?

Look at your under-hood emissions label or RPO code sticker:

  • LM2 – most 2020–2022 3.0L Silverados.
  • LZ0 – most 2023+ 3.0L Silverados.

If you can't find it, your dealer can tell you from the VIN.

Step 2 – What model year is your Silverado?

  • LM2 + 2021–2022 Silverado 1500

Many of these trucks fall under Special Coverage N252508341 (extended coverage on the coolant control valve).

  • LZ0 + 2023 Silverado 1500

Many of these trucks fall under Special Coverage N252508340.

  • 2020 LM2 or 2024 LZ0

Not clearly listed in these specific programs; you may still have powertrain or other warranty rights.

Step 3 – Dealer must confirm by VIN

Even if you “match” the pattern above, only the dealer can confirm coverage by checking your VIN in GM's system. Always ask them to print what they see so you have it for your records.

Chevy Silverado Coolant Temperature Service Bulletins: The Big Picture

Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) are GM's instructions to dealers on how to diagnose and fix known problems. They are not recalls, but they matter because they:

  • Show that GM recognizes a pattern, and
  • Tell the dealer what to do when the Silverado coolant control valve sets certain trouble codes.

For the 3.0L Duramax coolant valve, the key documents include:

  • A 2022 service bulletin numbered 22-NA-082, covering a Malfunction Indicator Lamp with DTCs such as P06DD, P2B60, P26BB, and P1098, with a required ECM update before further diagnostics.

  • A 2022 Engineering Information document focused on MIL complaints and DTCs P26BB and P2B60 related to the engine coolant control valve, used by GM engineers to gather data and refine repairs.

Your service advisor can pull these by number, but having the titles and PDFs at hand makes it easier to talk about the Chevy Silverado coolant temperature service bulletins with confidence.

Special Coverage: Extended Protection

Separate from regular TSBs, GM created two Special Coverage programs that act like extended warranties for the coolant control valve when diagnostics confirm a failure:

N252508340 – LZ0 Coverage

  • Applies primarily to certain 2023 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 trucks with the LZ0 3.0L Duramax.
  • Extends coverage on the coolant control valve to 15 years or 150,000 miles from the original in-service date.

N252508341 – LM2 Coverage

  • Applies to many 2021–2022 Silverado 1500/Sierra 1500 and certain 2022 SUVs with the LM2 3.0L Duramax.
  • Also provides 15-year/150,000-mile coverage when the coolant control valve is confirmed to be the cause.

These programs do not automatically apply to every 3.0L Duramax. Coverage is VIN-specific, and repairs still have to follow the diagnostics in the bulletins.

How to Confirm Coverage on Your Own Truck

Here's how to turn this into a practical conversation with your dealership:

  1. Call the service department with your VIN.
  2. Ask them to check for:

·         Any Chevy Silverado coolant temperature service bulletins referencing DTCs P06DD, P26BB, P2B60, or P1098.

·         Any open Special Coverage programs related to the coolant control valve (N252508340 or N252508341).

  1. Request a copy of any repair order showing which bulletin or coverage code was used.
  2. If they tell you “you're not covered,” ask for a written estimate and note the date, mileage, and what the advisor said.

If you're not sure whether your symptoms match the classic coolant valve problem, our companion Duramax Coolant Valve Issue page walks through a quick checklist and explains how it feels in real-world driving.

When Bulletins and Coverage Aren't Enough – NY & NJ Legal Options

Even with strong Chevy Silverado coolant temperature service bulletins and 15-year/150,000-mile coverage, some owners still face repeated failures, parts backorders, or out-of-pocket costs for diagnostics.

For New York and New Jersey owners, key questions include:

  • How many times the truck has been in for the same coolant control valve concern.
  • How many days it has been out of service, especially during warranty.
  • Whether you feel you can no longer rely on the truck for towing, work, or daily use.

If the problem keeps returning after visits, or the truck is out of service for an extended stretch, it may strengthen a claim. Owners with substantial and recurring problems may be entitled to a refund or replacement under the lemon law. Other owners may have claims for breach of warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Act.

If you're in NY or NJ and dealing with ongoing coolant valve trouble, contact us for a free consultation and we'll review your repair orders and tell you if your history supports a buyback or compensation claim.
